Set on rolling hills, the city has easy access to the surrounding countryside, including the Peak District. It has excellent transport links to the whole of Britain and has been declared the United Kingdom's safest city. Despite its size, the city is by no means overwhelming, and with its friendly atmosphere and cheap prices (including on the burgeoning club scene) Sheffield is described by many as an ideal student centre. The city is currently transforming itself from a steel-led industrial centre into an economically and culturally diverse city. The range of topographies and cultural conditions to be found in the city and its region provide an ideal background for the study of architecture.
